Under the guidance…
of our Nordic walking instructor, we will enjoy daily walks along canals and rivers, mostly on bicycle trails, void of car traffic. An exhilarating walk on the North Sea Beach will be for many people the highlight of this adventure. Spring is the most peaceful time of the year to explore Holland: watch the farmers prepare the land, wave at the boaters, listen to the birds, and enjoy the tranquility all around you.
Your barge will be crossing from Den Helder, the Dutch Marine base, to the island of Texel. This island has more sheep than permanent locals, with the exception of the summer months when tourists fill the hotels and the camping grounds. A visit to Ecomare is on the agenda where you will explore the nature museum, aquarium and sanctuary for seals and birds.
Each day, your instructor helps you improve your Nordic walking, a sport easy to learn with many health benefits.
We will visit some wonderful old villages where you see homes dating to the 1600s, and introduce you to Dutch pastries and hot chocolate with real whipped cream. We visit Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands and home to Heineken brewery, the van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum where you’ll find many old masters including Rembrandt’s Night Watch. Amsterdam also has the Anne Frank House and many terraces where you can relax and watch the locals go about their business. Enjoy a visit to the spectacular public garden, Keukenhof, a showcase for bulb growers that reaches dazzling heights every spring. Its 74 acres, planted with seven million bulbs, offer a plethora hard to imagine but extraordinary to see.
