You don’t have to be Irish to love the country…
only the desire to discover this fascinating island with its iconic landmarks and vibrant culture. Sure, Guinness beer is plentiful, and peat bogs are everywhere, but there is more. If you are in Ireland at the end of June, you may want to watch the Irish Derby, one of the many horse races the locals pay close attention to. Ireland is known for its wide expanses of lush, green fields – so much so, that its nickname is the Emerald Isle. But there are also large areas of rugged, rocky landscape, too. And that brings you to Connemara. Bounded by the Atlantic and set within a particularly scenic corner of County Galway, a region famous for its wild terrain and soft colors.
Traffic in Ireland is on the left, and if you get lost the friendly locals will gladly help you and tell you about their uncle who moved to Chicago. If they ask How’s your form? they are not inquiring about a specific shape, rather, they want to know how you are. Connemara has the 12 Bens mountain range, a collection of sharply peaked quartzite summits and ridges. On June 15th, 1919, the pilots Capt. John Alcock and Lieut. Arthur Whitten-Brown crash-landed their Vickers Vimy aircraft south of Clifden in the Derrigimlagh Bog, a site you will be exploring.
How do you get around, you wish to know? Nordic Walking is a sport, easily learned, and it has far more benefits than regular walking. Each day, you’ll be coached from your luxury hotel in Clifden to different venues for sightseeing and Nordic Walking under the supervision of a certified instructor. Your accommodations are luxurious, the meals are special, and you wake up each morning with a smile.
